Frequently asked questions
-
How much does QA and software testing outsourcing cost?
Sourcefit’s QA and software testing rates are $980 a month for entry level, $2,033 for mid level and $2,808 for senior QA engineers, per full-time employee working from home. Office-based staff add $100 a month. Each rate is all in: salary and benefits at cost plus the $395 management fee. There are no setup, recruitment or exit fees. Where the work suits it, output-based pricing is also available, built on the same transparent framework: we show how the unit price is calculated, so you know exactly what you are paying for.
-
Is the management fee added on top of these rates?
No. The fee is already inside every rate on this page and on every quote. A $980 rate is about $585 of salary and benefits at cost plus the $395 fee. You will never see the fee added to a rate you were quoted.
-
What is included in the monthly rate?
Legal employment and compliance with an HR team on the ground, recruitment, an i5 computer with dual monitors and headset, a 24/7 IT help desk, a secure managed network, our security certifications and insurance, training and quality, client success management and the Knit workforce platform. For office-based staff it also covers the seat, office network and utilities.
-
How quickly can Sourcefit build a QA and software testing team?
Most QA and software testing roles are recruited, interviewed and onboarded in two to four weeks. Automation and performance specialists can take longer. You interview and choose the QA engineers.
-
Who manages the team day to day?
That is your choice. Most clients manage the team directly: the QA engineers report to your managers and work inside your processes and tools, with Sourcefit handling employment, HR, equipment, IT and quality support behind them. If you would rather not manage day to day, our Sightline model builds an autonomous team with its own Sourcefit team lead and quality layer that delivers against agreed SLAs, while still reporting directly to you and working to your KPIs, not ours. Sightline is quoted separately.
-
Can the team work inside our existing systems?
Yes. QA engineers work in your test and development tools, such as Jira, TestRail, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Appium, Postman and your CI/CD pipeline, under your access rules. You keep ownership of every account, and access is revoked the day someone leaves.
-
Is QA and software testing outsourcing secure?
Sourcefit holds ISO 27001:2022 and ISO 27701 certification directly, is PCI DSS validated, has a SOC 2 report, signs HIPAA business associate agreements where needed and operates GDPR-aligned data handling. Home-based staff work on company-managed computers over a VPN with traffic routed through Cloudflare.
-
What happens if we want to bring the team in house?
The team is yours. If you decide to move them to your own entity or take them with you, they go with you. There is no transfer fee, buyout or conversion charge.
-
What does a dedicated offshore QA engineer cost compared with hiring locally?
A US QA engineer runs $65,000 to $95,000 in base salary, a senior automation engineer $80,000 to $120,000, before benefits. Australian salaries for the same roles are similar once converted to US dollars, and UK salaries run somewhat lower; in all three markets the local cost is several times the offshore rate. Sourcefit’s QA rates are $980 to $2,808 a month, all in, which annualizes to $11,760 to $33,696. The spread between entry and mid reflects the salary difference between a manual tester and an automation engineer in the Philippines, passed through at cost.
-
Dedicated testers, a managed QA team or project-based testing?
Project-based testing suits a one-off pre-launch push. A managed QA team sits behind an account manager and you rarely know who did the work. Dedicated testers are embedded in your sprints, build product knowledge and stay. For continuous delivery, dedicated is the model that holds up.
-
What types of testing can be outsourced?
Functional, integration, regression and acceptance testing; performance and load; cross-platform and mobile; UI and UX; security and compliance testing; and automation suite development with CI/CD integration. Senior roles move offshore too: QA leads who own the test strategy, automation architects and QA managers who run a team. Ownership of acceptance criteria stays with your product team.
-
Should the testers be ISTQB certified?
It is not required. Many of our testers hold ISTQB Foundation and some have the AI testing extensions, which matter for teams shipping AI features, but a certificate is not proof of skill. We test candidates on a real application and on test design, and you interview the shortlist. If your own standards or a client contract call for certified testers, tell us and we will recruit to that.
-
Which automation tools do your QA engineers use?
Selenium, Playwright, Cypress and Appium for automation; JMeter and k6 for performance; Postman for APIs; TestRail, Zephyr and Xray for test management; Jira and Azure DevOps for tracking; Jenkins and GitHub Actions for CI; BrowserStack for device coverage. We recruit to your stack.
-
How do you decide what to automate?
By release cadence, risk and maintenance cost, not by test count. A good QA engineer automates the stable, high-risk flows and keeps exploratory testing manual. Inflated automation suites that nobody maintains are the most common waste in outsourced QA.
-
How will the QA team work with our developers?
In your standups and sprint planning, in your Jira and Slack, with a named point of contact. They augment your capacity, take overflow or own specific areas, and coordinate with any internal QA you already have.
-
How does the time zone work?
Two models: overnight, where developers hand off at the end of their day and find results in the morning, or overlap, where testers work your hours. A half-day overlap is usually enough for standups and questions. Australia and the UK overlap naturally.
-
How do you measure QA quality?
Defects caught before production, release escape rate, test coverage of critical flows, reopen rate and cycle time. Reports come from your tools, so you see the same numbers the testers do.
-
Can AI replace QA testers?
AI generates tests and speeds up regression, and also produces duplicate and wrong tests that need senior curation. Product judgment, exploratory testing and testing of AI features themselves still need people. The role is shifting toward test architecture and CI/CD, and that is what we recruit for.
